Painting on velvet takes special skill, countless hours and is very labor intensive. I do my best to work with precision and speed, but you can’t rush a good thing! Turn-around generally takes 2-3 weeks for a custom artwork. I work on a first come, first served basis and will be able to give you an exact ETA at time of sale.

Materials: I paint on two different kinds of velvet. The first is black velvet fabric that I stretch over canvas. I call this one “Traditional”. This is what the old school velvet painters used; it’s heirloom quality, ready to hang and can be popped into a frame without glass (I don’t recommend putting glass over velvet, you get reflection glare and it diminishes the rich tactile appeal of the fabric). This type can be made into any standard size you’d like. The second option is Velveteen, which is a fuzzy flocked fabric sheet. It’s the most commonly used material for velvet painters today. Velveteen is soft, and needs to be adhered to a backing board in order to be framed without glass. Velveteen is an option if you’re on a tight budget; since it isn’t stretched over a canvas base, it costs less, is very lightweight, and can be rolled to reduce shipping costs. Velveteen can be cut to fit many custom sizes, but has a maximum width of 18″inches on one side. It can be up to 4′ Feet long.

Velvet Care: Velvets are not high maintenance and need minimum care. That being said, you should treat your one of a kind artwork with the same care given to any type of painting or photograph. Never hang your velvet in a kitchen as sticky cooking oils and dust could accumulate and damage the painting. I treat all of my work with a UV resistant clear sealer, however, you should always avoid hanging any art in a place with bright sun, as UV rays will bleach and fade pictures over time. If your painting manages to get pet hair or dust on it, you can gently use a lint roller to clean.
